Signs Your Pet May Need Emergency Care
You know your pet better than anyone. If something doesn’t seem right—if they’re acting strange, won’t eat, are breathing differently, or just don’t seem like themselves—it’s okay to trust that feeling. Emergencies don’t always look dramatic. If you’re worried, we’re worried.
What to Do If You Think It’s an Emergency
Move your pet to a quiet area. Speak softly and keep them calm. Call us before you leave if you can—we’ll let you know what to do next and get ready for your arrival. If you’re alone or overwhelmed, ask someone to come with you.
If your pet is bleeding, apply steady, gentle pressure with a clean cloth or towel. If they’re choking or have something stuck in their mouth, don’t try to remove it—just keep them calm and come straight in.
Most importantly, do not give any human medications unless directed by a veterinarian.
Other urgent signs include seizures, exposure to toxins, bloated abdomen, or difficulty urinating. If something feels serious, it probably is.
Not sure? Call us. We’re here to help you figure it out and walk you through what to do next. Whether it’s a true emergency or not, you won’t have to make that call alone.
You’ll work with experienced doctors who explain the plan, a team that makes sure nothing gets missed, and people who understand how scary an emergency feels—and go out of their way to treat you with empathy, not indifference.
Whether it’s a late-night emergency or something that just couldn’t wait, we act as an extension of your primary care team—so your pet gets the continuity they need, and you get the confidence of knowing everyone’s on the same page.
