Veterinarian & Owner

Dr. Claire Surber

Hello, I am Dr. Claire Surber and I’m delighted to introduce myself and welcome you to Homestead Animal Hospital -my vision of a different kind of animal hospital. This hospital is the culmination of my experience in veterinary medicine for over 20 years with the principles of compassionate care, thoughtful medicine, and meaningful relationships with both pets and the people who love them.

Growing up in West Virginia, I was raised with a strong sense of community, hard work, and helping others. These values have shaped who I am and how I practice medicine. Now, Georgia has been my home for two decades; it’s where I started my veterinary journey at UGA (Go Dawgs!), built my career, am raising my family, and found a deep connection to the community. I believe in being “rooted”—in empathy, in science, in service, and in the community we proudly serve.

Throughout my career, I have honed my skills in general medicine and surgery, guided by a commitment to compassionate and comprehensive veterinary care. I am dedicated to enhancing the well-being of pets at every life stage, from puppies and kittens to their senior years, with a focus on preventive care, behavioral support, and pain management. My approach is tailored and personal – I believe veterinary care should never be one-size-fits-all. Every pet has a unique story and so does every pet parent. I take pride in understanding the whole picture to guide the best care for your pet and family.

Outside of my role at the veterinary hospital, I enjoy a variety of activities that contribute to my well being and help to fuel my passion for providing the best care for my patients. You may find me cooking a new recipe, creating pottery in my home studio, or just enjoying time with my family and pets which include three dogs, two cats, a tortoise, and our backyard chickens.

Thank you for exploring Homestead Animal Hospital and I welcome you to our family. I am honored to be able to be a part of your pet’s care and I look forward to building a lasting partnership that nurtures both your pet’s health and their happiness.

Warmly,
Dr. Claire Surber
