Kelly is the owner/operator of DoubleStar Equestrian in Mason, MI, a training farm dedicated to getting horses and riders started on the right hoof in the horse industry. Her degree in Horse Farm Management from Michigan State University, and years of previous experience at a mixed animal practice make her a great addition to Michigan Large Animal Associates as a traveling assistant to Dr. Cadena. She is excited to meet new faces in the Michigan equine industry and assist with veterinary procedures at your farm!
Liz grew up in a large family on a hobby farm in the western Upper Peninsula but currently lives outside Eaton Rapids. She graduated from Michigan State University’s Lyman Briggs College where she majored in Animal Science and specialized in Agricultural Business Management. When she was young she worked at a Morgan horse farm where she developed a strong love for horses and the breed. She enjoys spending time with family, reading, baking, kayaking, and being outdoors. She is looking forward to working with the team here at Michigan Large Animal Associates as we serve you and your animals!
Jess was born and raised in the Grand Ledge area and currently resides in Charlotte. She had a passion for horses from a young age and growing up would frequently visit her grandparent’s farm to help care for the horses they had. Previously, her background was in television broadcast, but she is excited to follow her passion for large animals and help provide the best care to the patients here at Michigan Large Animal Associates. In her free time, she likes to play with her children, swim, hike, and enthuse over classic American muscle cars.
Dr. Parr attended Michigan State University, where he earned an undergraduate degree in Microbiology followed by his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He was raised on a dairy farm in the Charlotte Area and returned here to practice when he graduated from veterinary school in 1994. He was a partner in a mixed animal practice before starting Michigan Large Animal Associates in 2005 in order to focus on Bovine and Equine medicine. Dr. Parr has now retired from clinical medicine, but remains a vitally important part of Michigan Large Animal Associates as a remote business manager. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, cycling, and motorcycles.
Dr. Hawvermale grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, right outside of Washington DC. She attended the University of Maryland, College Park where she earned a degree in Animal Science and from there she went on to graduate from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in May 2022. She has always had a passion for horses, and this grew to include cows, sheep, and goats during college and veterinary school. Her professional interests include routine preventative medicine, dentistry, herd and flock management, and parasite control for small ruminants. In her free time, she enjoys bird watching, hiking, and cooking with her husband Jack and snuggling her two dogs, Winston and Ollie.
Dr. Cadena is a Michigan native from the Barry County area. She attended Michigan State University for her undergraduate degree in Animal Science and went on to graduate from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 Her professional interests include podiatry, ophthalmology, performance maintenance, and general medicine. She earned a post-graduate certification in veterinary spinal manipulation (VSMT) and gained certification in acupuncture as an additional layer for the rehabilitation and pain management of all our patients. When she has free time she enjoys running, cooking, and relaxing with family and friends.
Dr. Davis grew up right here in the Charlotte area and graduated from the University of Olivet with a degree in biology. She graduated from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2020 after she had spent nearly a decade working and riding at a Hunter-Jumper barn in Battle Creek, MI. In 2023 she followed in Dr. Cadena’s footsteps and also became certified for Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy (VSMT), also sometimes called chiropractic care, through Healing Oasis. Her professional interests include dentistry, preventive medicine, and gastroscopy/endoscopy. In her free time, she enjoys being outside, playing with her dogs Sasha and Arie, visiting friends and family, and reading.
