Soft Tissue & Orthopedic Surgery for Pets

We are equipped to handle both routine and some complex surgical procedures. Every patient is thoroughly evaluated and their surgery and anesthesia protocol selected based on their individual needs. We always perform pre-operative bloodwork to identify any underlying issues prior to surgery. Continuous monitoring by trained technicians and electronic monitoring devices is provided to every surgical patient, and medication protocols are tailored to each individual.

- Abdominal surgeries (exploratory, foreign body removal, splenectomy, tumor removal, C-section, pyometra surgery)

- Orthopedic surgeries (fracture repair, luxating patella repair, extracapsular CCL repair)
- Other soft tissue surgeries (anal sacculectomy, stenotic nares correction, salivary mucoceole, vulvoplasty, etc.)
Orthopedic Surgeries
We can address a wide range of orthopedic problems and offer consultation on any orthopedic condition to evaluate the need for surgical intervention and in some cases, referral. We partner with Mobile Veterinary Services of Austin for advanced orthopedic cases for consult and surgery for your pet at Barks + Bliss.
- Bone fracture splinting (non-surgical) and some surgical fracture repairs with internal fixation
- Leg amputation- for severe injury or tumors
- Patellar luxation correction (luxating knee caps)
- Femoral head and neck ostectomy for hip dysplasia, arthritis of the hip or fracture of the femoral head or neck
- Extracapsular repair of cranial cruciate ligament (CCL or ACL) instability or rupture, with or without a meniscal tear
- More advanced CCL repairs by tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) and fracture repairs can be performed at Barks + Bliss in most cases in partnership with the Mobile Veterinary Services Austin team or they will be referred. Scheduling Surgeries
Surgeries are scheduled and performed Monday through Friday. Drop-off time is between 7:30am to 8:30am. Pick-up for outpatient procedures is generally between 4 and 6 p.m. If your pet is showing clear signs of illness (runny nose, fever, etc.) or the blood work reveals problems, we will reschedule or re-evaluate your pet for surgery. Some advanced surgical procedures may be referred to other facilities.
