Overview

Aspire Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and motivated Veterinary Technician II to join our progressive and collaborative care team. This role is designed for individuals who have mastered the foundational skills of a veterinary assistant or Technician I and are now ready to expand into more advanced areas of veterinary medicine.

As a Technician II, you will demonstrate a strong command of both routine and advanced veterinary protocols across all technical departments—including medical exams, dental and surgical support, emergency triage, imaging, and laboratory diagnostics. You will also support our working dog and rehabilitation services, and play a critical role in maintaining clinical standards, patient care quality, and staff mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on experience and daily caseload, responsibilities may include:

Advanced Exam & Treatment Support

  • Support complex medical exams (sick visits, hospitalized patients, working dog exams)
  • Administer IM injections, IV injections and catheterization, and advanced medication protocols
  • Perform triage intake evaluations and initiate emergency intervention procedures
  • Assist with preparation of health certificates and international travel documentation

Laboratory & Diagnostic Skills

  • Conduct advanced sample collection and preparation (PRP, cultures)
  • Relay routine lab results and assist with callbacks with direct veterinary collaboration
  • Ensure strict compliance with MSDS, PPE, and disposal protocols

Digital Imaging & Interpretation

  • Oversee safe operation and advanced use of digital imaging systems (X-ray, ultrasound)
  • Coordinate specialist consults and telemedicine logistics
  • Identify and describe findings for initial assessment under veterinary guidance

Procedure Support – Dental and Surgical

  • Assist with sedation and/or general anesthesia induction for surgical and dental procedures
  • Monitor anesthesia and patient recovery
  • Maintain sedation/anesthesia logs
  • Perform advanced equipment prep and instrument care
  • Perform dental scaling, dental x-rays, and assist with dental charting

Rehabilitation & Working K9 Support

  • Guide use of conditioning and rehab equipment, including underwater treadmill
  • Assist with routine and sick working dog exams and health certifications
  • Document conditioning protocols and handler communications

Administrative & Training Leadership

  • Intake and discharge of hospitalized or emergent patients
  • Mentor junior staff in treatment, safety, and documentation protocols
  • Contribute to research, white paper drafting, or community education presentations

Qualifications

Required (Minimum Requirements):

  • Proficiency in all routine technical and administrative tasks
  • Comfort with advanced protocols in exam, lab, imaging, and treatment
  • Familiarity with applicable laws and controlled substance protocols
  • Experience supporting working dogs or special patient populations
  • Desire to pursue credentialing or specialized veterinary training

Preferred (Maximum Requirements):

  • Mastery of advanced skills in triage, imaging, surgery, and diagnostics
  • Strong understanding of Maryland state veterinary regulations
  • Comfort leading hospital-wide procedures, assisting with research, and teaching others
  • Active pursuit of a specialty focus or credential (e.g., RVT, CCAT/CCRP, CCFT, etc)

Schedule & Benefits

  • Full-Time; 36-40 hrs/wk
    • Hospital Hours: M–F 8am–6pm, Saturdays 9am–1pm
